Is this some kind of a joke?

Hi, folks...

Fun stuff today. But first...

In case you missed yesterday's email, the completed Skype room

report is available (and free). There's a bit of a contest to

see who can come up with the best name for it. Got some

interesting entries so far.

Choose your format and grab it with either of these links:

And now, on with the show...

"My Favorite Joke"

================

So, there I was, minding my own business, reading a forum, and

things got crazy. Whodathunkit?

It started when Ken "Komedy King" Leatherman mentioned how much

humor can add to the value of a message. Of course, I had to

jump in. You guys know how much I hate gratuitous levity.

Right? You knew that, didn't you?

Anyway, one thing led to another, and I told him my favorite

joke. Apparently, from the responses, I need to stick with

contextual humor, story-telling, and the extemporaneous. (That

last one is Latin for "making it up as you go along.")

Just to rub it in, Gail Curran decided to create a video of the

joke, to give me a few pointers on delivery.

It's all of 15 seconds long. That little dude got more laughs

with my joke than I ever have...

[drat][grrr][sigh]

"Corrections for Mac Users"

=========================

No, that doesn't signal the start of an OS war.

Seems the Mac version of Skype handles creation of private

rooms differently than the PC version. Sandy was kind enough to

offer me a write-up of the process, for use on your favorite

fruity toymaker's machines.

Here are the instructions she sent...

Skype for Mac seems to be somewhat different from

Skype for windows. In both the 5.7 and 5.8 versions

there is no "create new group" in Skype for Mac.

Instead you have to go to "File" then "Create New

Conversation". Once you have added the required

people/guests you need to go to the appropriate listing in

the left hand index bar, right click on the name that

showed up when you started adding people/guests in then

click on "Set Topic" to be able to insert the correct name

e.g. ABC Mastermind.

To remove someone from the group, you have to click on his

or her name - a drop down menu will appear and you simply

select "remove from group"

On behalf of all the deranged creative types in the crowd,

thankee, ma'am!

By the way, Sandy's developing a niche site for private label

video articles, at http://www.nicheplrvideoarticles.com/

"Of Wombats and Men"

==================

Still working on getting enough of a head start on the writing

"course." I'm hoping to get the first month or so of emails

ready to roll some time this week.

This won't be your usual "course" on writing. I'm taking a

different approach, which I think will be a lot of fun, and

hopefully more effective for us "grown-ups" than Mrs Wombat's

didactic diatribes.

One thing I don't expect to be doing a lot of is explaining

grammar. Like most people who learned it at the hands of the

Nazi Penguins in Drag (affectionately and officially known as

the Sisters of Mercy), I've internalized the practice and

forgotten most of the phrasing.

Besides, it's been done. If you're learning to write in

English as a second language, or just feel the need to brush up

on the difference between punctuation and pronouns, check out

this site by my old pal Judy.

http://webgrammar.com/

A treasure trove of grammatical goodness, and it's all yours

for the clicking.

I will probably do a piece on the proper use of commas,

though.

A meslpaicd cmoma can be mroe cifnunosg tahn jlbumnig the

lterets in yuor wdors.

Sriesoluy.

....

The impending release of this is why I've been plugging the

writing and creativity products lately. I really want to see

this help a lot of people turn their keyboards into power

tools, and the more you know at the beginning, the better

you're likely to do.

The course/series/collection of stuff will be free and,

hopefully, useful. If you have a structure to hang it on, it

will probably help even more.

So, if you want to learn to create better content and you

haven't grabbed a copy yet, pick up "Creating Killer Content."

http://talkbiz.com/killercontent/?e=1

By the way, my definition of good content can be summed up in

two words: Gets results.

That's what "Killer Content" is all about: Results.

....

And with that, I'm back to work on the course...

Enjoy!

Paul
